Gambia has little or no valuable mineral deposits. Main occupation of the people is based on agriculture and fishing. About 75% of the people are engaged in farming. Peanuts is the major crop; peanut products, fish, cotton lint, palm kernels are other main engagements.
Excellent scope for Fisheries and related industries exists but these are yet to be developed. E conomic progress remains highly dependent on sustained bilateral or multilateral aid.
International Issues.
There are no contentious issues between the Gambia and neighbors. In 1991 Senegal and the Gambia signed a friendship and cooperation treaty. |
